Looking good on the outside doesn’t always reflect what’s going on inside. Our advanced testing will help you discover if your biochemistry is optimal or whether there is something contributing to a current condition or the future development of one.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Even if you think you are healthy, getting baseline diagnostic testing is a valuable tool to know where you stand. By the time you are 40 you should have a full set of labs, not only to see if there are any underlying problems you are unaware of, but also to get a baseline to gage changes in the future.
Cellular changes begin many years before the physical manifestation of disease (the point where you realize something is wrong and go to your doctor). We can discover these problems early, while they are still a pre-condition, making it very easy to make simple changes to reverse and prevent outright disease. Once you develop the disease, although not impossible to reverse, it can become more challenging and puts a bigger strain on your life and pocket book.
For example, just by checking for markers of insulin resistance we can discover risk years before you develop pre-diabetes or diabetes. Insulin resistance underlies cardiovascular and metabolic disease, neurologic degeneration, and many cancers, so its pretty important to know if you have it!
Case Study: A 46-year-old male seemingly out of nowhere has a heart attack. Fortunately, he survives. Prior to that his labs were always “normal”. His lipid panel was normal. His blood glucose was normal. He was slightly overweight, mostly in the abdomen, exercised occasionally, ate a diet he thought was healthy but still included processed foods. He didn’t smoke and drank on the weekends. His blood pressure was occasionally elevated but not enough to be on medication. He had a moderately stressful job. What did his doctors miss?
Little did he know for years before the heart attack he had signs of insulin resistance, his advanced lipid panel showed high levels of small dense LDL particles, oxidized lipids, and elevated markers of inflammation. He also had low Vitamin D and low normal testosterone. These things were causing damage to his blood vessels that eventually gave way to a heart attack. Had he known better about his hidden markers; he could have prevented the heart attack. Now he is on multiple medications his doctor says he’ll be on for life, and because he does not realize how his diet and lifestyle are affecting his health and risk factors, he has not addressed the root cause of his heart attack and is at risk for further events such as stroke, diabetes, dementia, and another heart attack.
Another excellent use of specialty testing is when you have a condition that isn’t getting better with conventional treatment, has vague symptoms unexplained by conventional medicine, and you know there must be a reason you feel the way you do or a reason you developed your condition. Functional medicine laboratory testing helps us evaluate nutritional, biochemical, or physiological imbalances that contribute to your disorder.
We are partnered with many laboratories around the U.S., both conventional and specialty, to bring you the latest and most advanced diagnostic testing available. Many of these labs work with your insurance companies. However, some do not. Knowing that insurance companies do not reimburse well for non-standard testing, these labs offer affordable cash pricing. Some of our lab partners are:
- Genova Diagnostics
- True Health Diagnostics
- Quest
- Labcorp
- Labrix/Doctors Data
- Precision Analytical (DUTCH)
- GX Sciences
- Cyrex Labs
- Realtime Labs
- US Biotek
We can provide almost any type of conventional and specialty lab testing. Our most common and useful labs include:
- Advanced conventional
- Nutritional
- Food allergy/sensitivity/celiac
- Stool/SIBO
